Compare
Line up two to four providers side by side on Medicare payments, Part B services, prescribing, KOL tier, top procedures and top drugs.
Open Compare -- in the sidebar under Workspace.
Compare puts up to four providers in one grid, so you can see who leads on each metric without flipping between record pages. It compares providers, identified by NPI.
Picking providers
There are three ways in.
From the Providers table
- Open Providers in Table view.
- Turn on the Compare toggle in the table toolbar. A checkbox appears on every row.
- Tick up to 4 providers. A bar at the bottom of the screen counts your selection.
- Press Compare in that bar once you have 2 or more. Clear empties the selection.
The selection is kept while you page and filter in the same browser tab.
From a provider's record page
On the Similar tab, the Closest peers panel lists lookalike providers. Tick up to 3 of them and press Compare N providers to line them up with the provider you are viewing.
By NPI
Opening Compare with nothing selected shows a box: enter 2 to 4 NPIs separated by commas or spaces and click Compare.
The page address holds the NPIs, so you can bookmark a comparison or come back to it. When an address carries more than 4 NPIs, the extra ones are skipped and the page says which. Entries that are not 10-digit NPIs are skipped too.
What the grid shows
Header. For each provider: name, NPI, KOL tier badge, specialty, location and a Full profile link. The trash icon removes that provider from the comparison.
Practice. Entity Type, Specialty, Subspecialty, Location, Medicare Participating and Enumerated (the date the NPI was issued).
Volume and Spend. Total Medicare Payment, Part B services (incl. drug units), Service Beneficiaries, Unique HCPCS Codes, Total Drug Cost, Rx Claims, Rx Beneficiaries, Brand Drug Cost, Generic Drug Cost, Opioid Prescriber Rate and Beneficiary Avg Risk.
The leader on each Volume and Spend row is highlighted: the highest value, except Opioid Prescriber Rate, where the lowest is highlighted. Only values above zero count, and a row needs at least two providers with data to show a leader.
Top 5 Procedures. Each provider's five Part B procedures with the most services, with the service count and the average Medicare payment.
Top 5 Drugs. Each provider's five Part D drugs with the most claims, with the claim count and the total drug cost.
A Sources line under the grid shows when each source was last refreshed.
KOL tier
The badge ranks each provider against same-specialty providers in the same state (all providers in the state when that group is too small) on three Medicare measures. Hover the badge to see the rule and the peer group. See Record Pages for how tiers are scored.
When data is missing
- Could not load marks a cell whose source did not answer. Those cells are left out of the highlighting. Reload the page to retry.
- No record for this NPI means the NPI is not in the provider data.
- No Part B services on file or No Part D drugs on file means the provider has no Medicare records of that kind.
- Tier unavailable means the data behind the tier did not load.
Leaving
Clear and return empties your selection and takes you back to the Providers table.
