Cohorts
One working set for the whole app: pick your states, specialties and drugs once and every page that supports those filters applies them.
Open Cohorts -- in the sidebar under Markets.
A cohort is your working set: the states, specialties and drugs you actually sell into. Build one, make it active, and every page that supports those filters scopes itself to you. Switch to another cohort, or to All data, at any time.
Cohorts are saved on your account, so they follow you to any device. Which cohort is active is remembered in each browser.
Building a cohort
Click New cohort on the Cohorts page or in the cohort switcher. The dialog has a Name field and three tabs:
| Tab | What you pick | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| States | The 50 states and DC, by name and code | All of them |
| Specialties | Medicare specialties, searchable | 25 |
| Drugs | Brand names, searchable | 25 |
Each tab shows how many values you picked. A cohort needs a name and at least one value. Create cohort saves it and makes it active straight away.
You can also start a cohort from the Map: Save as cohort opens the same dialog with the states you selected already filled in.
The cohort switcher
On pages that support cohort filters, a cohort button sits in the top bar. It shows the active cohort's name, or only the cohort icon when none is active. Click it for Cohort scope:
- All data turns cohorts off everywhere.
- Click a cohort to make it active.
- Hover a cohort you own to edit or delete it, or, on Teams, to share it.
- The footer says what applies on the current page ("Applied here: States, Specialties") and what does not ("Not supported here: Drugs").
- New cohort shows how many cohorts you own against your plan limit.
- Manage opens the Cohorts page.
Where a cohort applies
| Page | What it uses |
|---|---|
| Registry tables | Any of states, specialties and drugs the table can filter on. Several values in one dimension match any of them. |
| Map | All the cohort's states, preselected on the map |
| Insights | The state and the specialty, when the cohort has exactly one of each |
| Territory Brief | The state and the specialty, when the cohort has exactly one of each |
On a registry table, a notice next to the toolbar names the active cohort and which dimensions it applies there:
- "overridden here" -- you set your own filter on that column, and it replaces the cohort value on this table.
- "n/a" -- the table has no filter for that dimension, so it is ignored.
- Ignore shows the table without the cohort; Apply puts it back. This only affects the page you are on.
Values that contain a comma cannot be used as a filter and are skipped.
The Cohorts page
- Your cohorts -- every cohort you own or that a teammate shared with you. Click one to make it active; click the active one again to turn it off.
- Active cohort -- its states, specialties and drugs, with Share, Edit and Delete for cohorts you own. A cohort shared with you is marked Shared with you and is read-only.
- Headline counts -- the first four footprint counts, as large numbers.
- Footprint -- how big the cohort is in each dataset that can filter on it:
| Dataset | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Providers | Individual and organizational NPIs in scope |
| Facilities | Medicare-certified facilities in scope |
| Health centers | Federally funded safety-net sites |
| HPSA areas | Shortage-area designations covering your footprint |
| Medicare drug lines | Part D prescribing rows matching your scope |
| Orange Book entries | Patent and exclusivity records for your drugs |
| Recall records | FDA enforcement rows matching your scope |
| EHR records | Facility EHR module attestations in scope |
Each row says which dimensions it matched on and has an Open link to the table. A dataset that cannot filter on any of the cohort's dimensions is left out. If a dimension is not filterable on any dataset, the page says so, so you know it is not narrowing the counts.
Links under the footprint open the Map, Insights and Territory Brief in this cohort.
Plans and sharing
| Plan | Cohorts you can own | Share with your team |
|---|---|---|
| Regular | 1 | No |
| Pro | 10 | No |
| Teams | 25 | Yes |
On Teams, Share makes a cohort visible to everyone on your team account; shared cohorts show a share icon and are listed under Cohorts in the Shared library on the Hub. Only the owner can edit, share or delete a cohort.
Cohorts saved on the Map before
Older versions of the Map kept cohorts in your browser. The first time you open a page with the cohort switcher, Qope moves those saved map cohorts to your account (within your plan limit) and confirms how many it moved.
Not the same as
- Patient panel filter in Insights -- narrows a ranking to providers whose panel carries a condition. It is part of one question, not your working set.
- Peer group on a provider record -- the same-specialty providers in the same state that a record is compared against. See Methodology. The scope bar in Insights is also labelled Peer group; it sets the scope of one ranking.
Metering
Opening the Cohorts page with a cohort active uses one credit, because the footprint counts read live data. See Usage and Limits.
