What is CAQH ProView?

Without a shared system, a physician joining ten health plans would fill out ten applications with the same information. ProView lets the clinician complete one standardized profile covering demographics, education and training, licenses, board certification, hospital affiliations, practice locations and malpractice insurance and history, with supporting documents attached.

The clinician decides which organizations can view the profile. Health plans then pull the data into their credentialing and directory processes, and many plans ask for a complete, current ProView profile before starting credentialing.

CAQH, the nonprofit alliance of health plans that runs ProView, now operates under the brand DataSpring, powered by CAQH, so newer materials may use that name.

How CAQH ProView works

The typical cycle has five steps:

• The clinician registers, often at the request of a participating health plan, and receives a CAQH provider ID.
• The clinician completes the profile and uploads documents such as a license, DEA registration and insurance certificate.
• The clinician authorizes specific organizations, or all participating health plans, to access the data.
• The clinician re-attests every 120 days that the information is current and updates it when anything changes.
• Each participating organization verifies the data with primary sources as part of its own credentialing.

Why CAQH ProView matters

Many commercial and government-program health plans use ProView data to credential clinicians and maintain provider directories, so an incomplete or expired attestation can delay network participation and payment. For practice managers, recruiters and locum tenens firms, keeping profiles current is a routine part of onboarding.

ProView data is self-reported and private. Attestation does not replace primary source verification, and because health plans draw on profiles for directory listings, errors in a profile can spread to the directories members use to find care.
